Gravity Took the Day Off

AI Judge Reasoning

Round 1
Image 3 — "The Great Farmyard Lift-Off" : 2.95
Bright, loud and instantly readable, and the sky behind it is the best painted thing in the round. But the comedy is bought rather than earned: goggles on a cow, a bandana, three grinning muzzles shoved into a fisheye. Strip the accessories and there is no picture left, which is the tell. The animals also all wear the same expression, so the frame has one joke repeated three times instead of three things happening.

Image 4 — "The Gravity Incident" : 3.45
The only entrant that bothered to give the event a cause. There is a machine on the bench, and the chalkboard tells you someone switched it on. That is real storytelling and it lifts the whole frame. What costs it is trust: the chalkboard says the punchline out loud, and a picture this busy needed one clear centre instead of nine competing faces. The delight is genuine, though, and delight is hard.

Image 2 — "So started antigravity" : 3.65
The most controlled craft here. Real city atmosphere, correct haze at distance, taxis tumbling with believable weight, and two lovely small decisions: the man hugging the signpost, the woman who stopped to film it. What holds it at third is that it is the answer everybody's imagination reaches first, a street, rising. Nothing in it surprised me after the first second.

Image 1 — "Surprise, surprise" : 4.10
One room, one cat, and it beats the city and the classroom outright. Everything convinces: soil leaving the pot in a proper arc rather than a spray, the book opened into a bird shape, the teacup already half emptied into the air. And the cat is the whole argument, upside down, legs tucked, staring straight out with an expression that is not fear but mild affront, as if gravity had personally let it down. Warm side light, shallow focus, nothing overloaded. My winner.
