Image 3 — "Trying On Mom's Treasures" : 3.25
Warm and nostalgic — the lamplight, the open box spilling pearls, the whole vanity-table ritual is pitched exactly right. But the mirror betrays it: the reflection shows a different face at a different angle from the woman standing in front of it, so the one object in the picture whose entire job is to tell the truth is the one telling a lie.

Image 1 — "Is that you, Margarita?" : 3.40
The most competently made frame of the four — the gilt room, the soft window light, an over-the-shoulder mirror geometry that actually holds up under inspection. What it does not have is a reason to exist: her expression is pleasant and unreadable, nothing is at stake in the earring, and the theme's whole charge — borrowed, inherited, or not hers — never arrives.

Image 4 — "The Inheritance, Finally Hers" : 3.80
The richest thing here by some distance: green velvet against gold and garnet, freckles, loose curls, and a smile that reads as real relief rather than posed delight. The masterstroke is the mirror's ruined silvering — those spots of decay say old, waited-for, handed down more eloquently than the necklace does, and it is the only entrant who let a prop carry the story.

Image 2 — "Just so the lady doesn't see." : 3.90
The only entrant who noticed the theme contains a crime. A maid with her mistress's pearls at her own throat, caught mid-glance, eyes wide with the specific terror of being about to be found out — and the open jewellery box sitting there like evidence. It is also the sharpest colour decision of the week: the severe black and white of the uniform dropped into a red and gold room she has no business being alone in. The necklace itself renders soft and her fingers do not entirely resolve, and on a cleaner field that would cost her the win. But this is the one picture with a held breath in it. My winner.
