Image 3 — "Between Breaths" : 3.05
This one answers the theme with an inventory instead of an image — under, above and after handed over as three stacked panels rather than one moment chosen and committed to. A triptych divides the eye three ways, so nothing accumulates: the sunset stroke, the lane-line glide and the exhausted rest all cancel each other out. The title promises a suspended instant between breaths, and a single frame holding it would have beaten all three panels combined.

Image 4 — "Touch of Victory" : 3.45
Technically the most accomplished picture in the round — the OMEGA pad renders cleanly enough to pass for real sports photography, and the bubble trail off the shoulders is properly observed. What holds it back is that it is the first answer anyone gives: the hand slapping the timing pad is the single most photographed instant in swimming, and reproducing it beautifully is not the same as adding to it.

Image 2 — "after a disappointing finish" : 3.70
The only entry chasing a feeling rather than a moment, and the low sun running rim-light along a wet shoulder while steam lifts off the surface earns it real warmth. It stops short because the pose is the standard grammar of defeat — head down, eyes closed — so the picture announces the result instead of letting us find it.

Image 1 — "Triathlon Freestyle" : 3.95
The one image that treats the water as the subject and the swimmer as punctuation: a single orange cap in a black sea, foam spreading outward in pale veins that read almost as handwriting. It takes "above" literally and then makes something unexpected of it — the drone height converts a sports photo into a picture about scale and nerve, and the eye finds the swimmer late, which is exactly the point. Craft is not flawless: the foam is patterned a little too decoratively to be real churn, and the figure softens under inspection. But ambition of this kind beats polish spent on a familiar shot. My winner.
