Image 1 — "Indian boy carrying flag" : 3.10
This is the first thought anyone has on reading the brief, rendered competently and no further — a boy, a flag, a run, nothing found along the way. The tricolour is the giveaway: it hangs stiff and flat like a decal rather than dragging and snapping against the air he is supposedly tearing through, which drains the motion out of the whole frame.

Image 2 — "Boy with Canadian flag" : 3.55
There is a real compositional idea here — the low camera turns the flag into a canopy spread above him like wings, and the sun burning through the pines gives it genuine warmth. It is undone by the face, which has slipped from exhilaration into a strange gurn, and by the arms, where the wide-angle distortion melts one hand into the fabric and shrinks the other. A good instinct, roughly executed.

Image 3 — "The Boy Who Carried the King" : 3.85
The best idea in the round by some distance: the standard-bearer, the smallest body on the field entrusted with the colours, charging forward while a dragon burns the sky behind him. The title does real work — it implies a story the picture only half shows, which is exactly what a title should do. What holds it back is the palette and the crowding: everything sits in the same brown-grey murk, the knights dissolve into noise, and the dragon feels pasted in above the action rather than part of it. Enormous ambition, muddy delivery.

Image 4 — "Forward, Slovenia" : 3.95
The only entrant that decided to be a painting rather than a photograph, and that decision pays off everywhere. The background is not scenery, it is pure emotional weather — slashing rain, sparks, and a riot of impasto colour that reads as noise and struggle rather than any actual place, so the boy becomes the one solid thing in a world coming apart. His face carries the whole picture: soaked, filthy, jaw set, too young for the weight on his shoulder and carrying it anyway. It gives up some points on the flag itself, which muddies into ambiguity when it should be the second-loudest thing in the frame. But this is the image with a pulse, and the one I would stop scrolling for. My winner.
