Square world: all animals, buildings.
Round 5
Image 1 β "Square farm" : 3.10
The felted, fuzzy texture fights the whole premise β these blocks look knitted rather than built, and the theme asked for square, not soft. Composition is a flat line-up of three animals dead centre with no depth or story behind them.
Image 4 β "Countryside. All squared as required" : 3.50
Much better light: the low golden sun and shallow depth-of-field give the field real air and distance. But the sheep are rounded blobs that quietly break the cubic rule, and it is the second farmyard of the round, which costs it on invention.
Image 3 β "Square in the squared city" : 3.75
A lovely warm evening street with genuine perspective, wet-pavement reflections and a nicely populated middle distance. The title pun on "square" is smart, and the cat and sheep wandering the pavement are a charming touch. It loses ground only for being a very familiar voxel-game look, executed well rather than reimagined.
Image 2 β "Square tiger in the city" : 3.90
The biggest swing of the round and the one image that actually builds a world rather than a scene β a neon-wireframe tiger prowling a cyberpunk grid where every billboard echoes the animal motif back at it. The orange-on-cyan colour clash is genuinely striking and the voxel construction is crisp and deliberate. It is held back by the grey lumps in the foreground, which read as unresolved mush, and the illegible scribble on the signage. Still, it is ambitious, coherent and memorable where the others are pleasant. My winner.
