They're Replacing God with Data Centers
They don't build churches anymore.
They build data centers.
Same idea, honestly. A giant windowless temple at the edge of town. Humming. Day and night. Nobody gets inside except the priests in hoodies. And you feed it.
You feed it your words. Every question, every late-night confession, every "what should I do with my life." That's the prayer.
You feed it your money. Twenty bucks a month, two hundred if you're devout.
And your town feeds it water. Rivers of it. One of these behemoths can drink like a small town, and much of it just evaporates into the sky. Gone. Meanwhile you get a polite letter asking you to shorten your shower because of the drought.
Guess who gets the water first.
Not you.
Your electricity bill goes up, because somebody has to pay for the new power lines, and it sure as hell isn't the god.
Your nights get louder, because a god hums. Constantly. Ask the people living next door.
And we're told this is progress. The god will answer everything, cure everything, fix everything. Just keep feeding it. A little more. One more temple. Okay, fifty more.
The old God at least promised you heaven.
