How much danger are drivers in, all kinds of them?

Real danger, but slower than for the juniors. It's coming city by city and route by route, not all at once. Ranked by risk:

  1. πŸš› Long-haul truckers: most at risk. Aurora now runs driverless on 10 routes across the US Sun Belt, and expects over 200 driverless trucks on the road by the end of 2026. Highways are the easy part of driving, and a robot never needs a rest stop.

  2. πŸš• Taxi and ride-hail drivers: next. Waymo reached 500,000 paid rides a week across 10 US cities in March 2026 and is aiming for 1 million a week by year-end. In China, Baidu's Apollo Go is at roughly the same weekly volume, in 26 cities. Still, the whole global robotaxi industry moves fewer paid rides in a week than New York's Uber and Lyft drivers do in a single day.

  3. πŸ“¦ Delivery drivers: slower. Stairs, doorbells and "leave it with the neighbor" are hard for robots.

  4. 🚌 Bus drivers, and anyone in snowy or rural areas: last. Public budgets, unions and bad weather all buy time.

My take: truckers in sunny states first, city taxis within about 10 years, everyone else later.

Proof : A human trucker can't legally drive 1,000 miles without stopping. Aurora's trucks already do.
