Google robs the writers. Meta robs the readers.
Google: Your work, their money.
Meta picked a different victim. Facebook used to send readers to websites. Not anymore. In 2018 it brought news sites 30% of their outside traffic. By 2024, only 7%.
What it does send you is ads. Meta's own documents say about 10% of its 2024 revenue, $16 billion, came from ads for scams and banned goods. A scammer gets banned only when Meta is 95% sure. Click one scam ad and the system shows you more, because it thinks you like them.
Fines? Meta expected up to $1 billion. A fraction of the scam money. Paying is cheaper than stopping.
Try it today. Google something simple and count the real websites you see before you scroll. Then open Facebook and count the ads that smell like a scam.
