Best place to hide a body is page 2 of Google
The data agrees: only 0.63% of searchers click anything on the second page.
Google now answers many questions itself, in an AI summary at the top. When it does, the first website gets 58% fewer clicks.
Researchers then tested Google's AI Mode, where search becomes a chat, on 1,100 real people. For every 100 searches, about 19 fewer clicks went to websites.
Meanwhile, Google's search income grew 19% in a year, to $60.4 billion in just three months.
People visit websites less, and Google earns more.
How could it be?
Google takes the information from websites, shows it on its own page, and keeps the visitors for itself.
The old joke said the best place to hide a body is page 2 of Google. Now page 1 works just as well, right under the AI answer. Search used to bring people to your website.
Now Google loots your work, serves it to your readers like it cooked it itself, and doesn't send you a single damn visitor.
